Frequently Asked Questions
❓ Frequently Asked Questions
✅Am I expected to attend this event?
Yes—if the event appears on your schedule, you are expected to attend and should plan to be there. If the event is not on your schedule or you have a conflict, please reach out to Margaret Robinson directly.
🗣️What are CAMELOT Check‑Ins?
CAMELOT Check‑Ins are brief, low‑stakes meetings with trainees and CAMELOT staff/faculty. Trainees share what they are currently working on in their labs and what they are learning through their research—no slides required. Each trainee speaks for under five minutes so we can hear from everyone, fostering connection, reflection, and shared learning across the cohort.
🚗🚌How do I get to campus?
Trainees can access CampusParc at https://osu.campusparc.com/ by logging in with their name.#. We recommend purchasing a West Campus parking pass and taking the MC (Medical Center) CABS bus to campus, which is a convenient and cost‑effective option. Bus routes and schedules are available at https://ttm.osu.edu/cabs.
📚What is Journal Club?
Journal Club is a forum where students and near‑peer mentors critically discuss recent publications from high‑impact research journals. Sessions focus on experimental design, methodology, key results, and the broader significance of each study. This experience strengthens critical thinking, scientific communication, and research evaluation skills while exposing participants to the latest advances in cancer research.
🔬What is Roundtable?
Roundtable sessions are weekly meetings where CREATES‑HS students explore cancer biology through engaging topics, discussions, and activities. In addition to deepening scientific understanding, these meetings support professional development through workshops focused on communication, research skills, and teamwork.
🎓What are Student and Faculty Panels?
Student and Faculty Panels feature students and faculty sharing their career journeys and answering questions about choosing a major, navigating career paths, and pursuing future opportunities. These panels help connect academic experiences to real‑world professions and provide practical guidance and inspiration.
👕 Is there a dress code for meetings or events?
Dress expectations vary by activity. In the lab, you should follow your lab’s safety guidelines (closed‑toe shoes, long pants, lab coat if required). For meetings such as CAMELOT Check‑Ins, Journal Club, or Roundtable, casual and comfortable attire is perfectly appropriate. For presentations or panels, business casual is recommended—think neat, professional, and presentation‑ready. When in doubt, it’s always okay to ask!
📧 Who should I contact if I have questions?
It is always okay to reach out! If you have questions, concerns, or just need clarification, please feel free to email Margaret Robinson at any time. I’m always happy to help and would much rather you ask than feel unsure.
