Become a CAMELOT Mentor

We have ongoing opportunities to mentor area High School, OSU Undergraduate, and Kenyon College students. Our programs are listed here. Students that participate in CAMELOT programs are paid by the CCC. If you are interested in mentoring a student, please complete our brief survey: https://redcap.link/2026CAMELOT

Mentor Responsibilities

  • Complete the mentor training requirement (information below)
  • Set clear expectations and goals with your trainee
  • Meet regularly with your trainee for guidance, problem-solving, and career conversations
  • Guide trainee through strengthening scientific skills, building professional networks, and encouraging strategic thinking
  • Encourage attendance at CAMELOT career development activities
  • Support the trainee throughout their full-time summer research schedule (32–40 hrs/week)
  • Attend end-of-year poster symposium

Trainee Responsibilities

  • Clarify learning goals and mentorship needs
  • Proactively seek guidance and feedback
  • Seek out learning opportunities and develop them with mentor
  • Set up a system for regular or periodic communication; maintain productive relationship with mentor
    • Send an agenda two or more days in advance, along with any documents for discussion
    • Email a summary of what was discussed after each meeting, with next steps
    • Keep mentorship activity log
  • Actively engage mentor in proposed research and educational/training activities
  • Attend CAMELOT career development activities
  • Contact CAMELOT with any issues regarding mentor, lab setting, schedule, or personnel
