The Hematology Tissue Bank (HTB) at the Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center operates under the direction of Dr. Lapo Alinari, MD, PhD (Director), Christopher Manring (Assistant Director/Laboratory Manager), Robin Taxier (Lead Laboratory Technician), Sydney Suzuki (Lead Clinical Research Coordinator), Lori Del Riesgo (Program Coordinator) and is staffed by a compliment of laboratory professionals supporting patient identification, clinical specimen processing, and molecular services. The HTB is currently pursuing accreditation through the College of American Pathologists Biorepository Accreditation Program; ensuring that the highest standards of laboratory best practices are maintained and provided to the OSUCCC and external collaborator research communities.

Lapo Alinari, MD, PhD - Director lapo.alinari@osumc.edu

Dr. Alinari is a board certified hematologist with a clinical and research focus on lymphoid malignancies. His clinical expertise includes indolent and aggressive B-cell Non-Hodgkin’s lymphomas as well as Hodgkin’s disease. Currently, he serves as an assistant professor of Internal Medicine in the Division of Hematology. As a member of the Leukemia Research Program at the OSUCCC – James, his research focuses on the identification of novel therapeutic targets as well as the preclinical and clinical development of innovative treatment strategies for lymphoma patients.

Christopher Manring, MBA, the LTBSR assistant director, has nearly 13 years of biorepository and laboratory experience, including 16 with the OSUCCC LTB. His expertise includes research protocol implementation, sample processing, data and project management, as well as quantitative analysis and leadership. Additionally, Chris provides clinical trial finance expertise obtained through previous positions collaborating with industry and federal sponsors on clinical trial financial (budget) and regulatory implementation.

  • Preparation and distribution of protocol-specific biospecimen procurement and shipping kits
  • Processing, storage, and distribution of solid tissue and fluid biospecimens (frozen tissue, fixed tissue, blood, serum, plasma)
  • Coding and distribution of fresh tissue biospecimens and clinical pathology case material (‘Honest Broker’ service) for research use
  • Healthy donor sample collection and distribution including hip bone tissue (marrow), cord blood (stem cell) and peripheral blood (control)
  • Negative/positive selection of specific cell types
  • Extraction and quality assurance of nucleic acids from solid tissue, cell, and fluid biospecimens
  • Scientific consultation regarding specimen collection and biobanking
  • Consultation regarding informed consent/ IRB procedures
