Participation
Group Meeting (June)
If you are selected for the Writing Club, you will receive an email from Dr. Meg Bouvier to set up a group meeting in June. She will explain how the club will work and will answer your questions.
Phone Consultations
After the initial group meeting, Dr. Bouvier will email members to set a time to speak briefly (approximately 30 minutes) about their NIH submission. The meeting will entail laying out a strategy for targeting optimal IC, study section and FOA, and for contacting PO and identifying questions to ask.
Edit to Near-Final Draft (typically 2-4 weeks before the deadline)
Dr. Bouvier will edit each member’s near-final draft of Aims, Research Plan and Biosketch. She will provide a line-by-line edit — formatted to highlight key points, compress spaces and facilitate skimming; identify red flags for reviewers; and make suggestions for figures. She also will draft the Project Summary and Narrative. She will then return the draft within 1-2 business days of the scheduled edit date.
Upload Draft to Cloud-Based Server
If you are comfortable, please upload your draft to the password-protected, cloud-based server that we provide. This will allow other members of the writing club to learn from multiple drafts.
Follow-Up (done after the funding decision)
Dr. Bouvier will review Summary Statements with members and strategize next steps.
NOTE: The Ohio State R Club involves seeing other grantees’ drafts-in-progress. It is crucial that everyone maintain a collegial, respectful approach to discussing and editing each other’s drafts, and maintain confidentiality.
